[00:00:00] Thank you for joining me and welcome to Paranormal Mysteries. I'm your host, Nic Ryan. On tonight's episode, I'll be talking about shadow people, spirit guides, a ghost in a vacant apartment, and a mysterious visitor in the Peruvian Amazon, just to name a few.
[00:00:29] But before we start tonight's show, I want to thank everyone for their support and generosity. Whether following and sharing the podcast, or donating through Patreon, Buy Me A Coffee, or PayPal. Every type of support that you give is greatly appreciated.
[00:00:44] And if you have a paranormal experience that you'd like to share with me and the listeners, you may contact me through email or voicemail at paranormalmysteriespodcast.com. You can also find all of our support and contact information within the show notes.
[00:01:00] And now, let's start the show with our first listener story of the night, which comes to us from Cody. And Cody's story is called, Shadow People or Imaginary Friend. Cody says, Hey Nic, I found your podcast on a long flight a couple of weeks ago,
[00:01:18] and I was an automatic fan. Thank you for sharing so many experiences. I want to share a recent experience that I had. It's going to be a little complicated to explain, so please bear with me. Since I was fairly young, I had experiences with shadow people. However,
[00:01:35] they happened so fast that by the time I realized it wasn't a real person standing in the corner, it was gone. However, the times I've been very aware of a shadow person was during very emotional
[00:01:46] times of my life. A few years back, I was in the middle of a divorce from my high school sweetheart. There were lots of emotions and I was laying in my bed scrolling through social media.
[00:01:57] My bed faced the door to the bedroom that opened to a long hallway of this townhouse that I lived in by myself. The hall was kind of shaped like the letter L, and the shorter part led into the
[00:02:08] dining or kitchen room area. And on either side of the longer part of the hallway was a bedroom. So basically my bedroom door faced the extra bedroom door. Well, as I'm scrolling on my phone,
[00:02:20] I look up and a very dark shadow comes around the corner from the dining room and almost peeps into my bedroom. I screamed, and I mean screamed. I jumped up thinking someone was
[00:02:30] in my townhouse with me. I ran into the dining room and checked the front and back door, and both were deadbolted. I then checked the whole house. By the time it really sunk in what
[00:02:41] had just happened and I calmed down, I realized what I had actually just seen. The next experience I had was a few weeks ago. I was going through a very emotional family time
[00:02:52] and was extremely upset that night. Well, I kind of dozed off, but something woke me up. When I woke up, it was something like an outline of a person, but a shadow leaned over me while I was
[00:03:03] in bed. When I woke up startled, I yelled, Cameron. But the shadow almost jumped back and disappeared like I had scared it. I didn't know where the name Cameron came from. It just popped in my head
[00:03:16] at that moment, and I yelled it out loud. I stayed up all night after that. A bit freaked out, I really started to think about Cameron, and then all of a sudden I got this overwhelming feeling of calm,
[00:03:28] and I finally put the pieces together. When I was about 13 years old, I lost a cousin who was six years old in a tragic accident. I am very close with my cousins, and in fact they are more like
[00:03:40] sisters to me. My cousin who died was the oldest at age six, and she had two younger sisters, one four years old and one was a baby. Well, a couple of years before my cousin passed away, she would
[00:03:52] play with an imaginary friend, a boy named Cameron. However, the strange part is that years after she died, my youngest cousin who was a baby also started playing with an imaginary friend, a little boy named Cameron. We had all forgotten about the six-year-old cousin playing with this Cameron
[00:04:11] until the youngest one started talking about Cameron. My aunt was very much freaked out by it, considering the last time she heard about this imaginary friend Cameron was before the passing of her oldest daughter. And my family is very Christian, and the paranormal isn't very welcomed
[00:04:27] by that religion. So back to the night that I yelled Cameron. The next morning I got up out of bed and was getting ready, and in the floor of my closet was a necklace that my aunt had given us
[00:04:38] after my cousin had died with her picture on it. I have lived in this house for two years, and I don't remember the last time that I have seen that necklace, but it was very much out of
[00:04:48] place. I took that as a sign that maybe this Cameron was connected to my cousin who had passed. With all that being said, I wonder if anyone else has had something similar happen to them. Anyway, thanks for reading my story, and I hope this email finds you well.
[00:05:09] Our next experience of the night comes to us from Brooke, and Brooke's story is called Spirit Passing Through. Brooke says, Hi Nick, I love the show. My favorites are the listener experiences. I'm telling this story because I'm not sure if it's paranormal, but wonder if anyone else
[00:05:28] has had something similar happen. I will preface this story with a little background story for reference. When I was about 15 or 16, I was helping a friend hang Christmas lights on her
[00:05:39] house. We were using a staple gun to hang them, and at some point I must have caught a wire while stapling, and I got an electric jolt throughout my body, so I know what it feels like to be
[00:05:49] electrocuted, even though it wasn't enough to hurt me or anything. Fast forward about 8 years, I'm standing at work which is located in an old house near downtown in my hometown. It had additions built on, but everything in the house portion was still there.
[00:06:05] It was on the old Erie Canal. It was generally creepy at times. Anyway, I was standing in the hallway not touching anything or anyone, and all of a sudden I got an
[00:06:15] electric shock just like when I was younger. I was confused and just kind of went on with my evening. Some months to a year went by, and my grandma had just died, and I was staying at her house
[00:06:27] with my grandpa, and it happened again. I was just standing in the dining room area, literally touching nothing, and I felt that same electricity run through me. I thought maybe it was just me. I don't know why, but it hasn't happened to me since,
[00:06:41] and it has been almost 20 years. It's one of the weirdest things that has happened to me, and I just wonder if anyone else has had an experience like this. Thanks so much for your podcast, Brooke.
[00:06:58] Our next experience of the night comes to us from Laurel, and Laurel's story is called Unknown Visitor in the Peruvian Amazon. Laurel says, My boyfriend at the time, Travis, and I decided to go on a backpacking trip to Peru.
[00:07:15] After being in the country for about three days, he became sick with salmonella. He spent a couple of days in a Lima hospital on antibiotics before we were able to continue our planned travels. The antibiotics and hospital visit definitely helped,
[00:07:30] but the salmonella was reoccurring. Anytime he'd eat any chicken product, even chicken broth, he would get ill again. We both really wanted to spend some time in the Amazon rainforest. We had just finished a hike on the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu
[00:07:44] and wanted to relax, so we booked a cottage at a retreat in the Peruvian Amazon. We had to take a boat taxi there. Soon after arriving at the retreat, Travis became sick again. I went on outings with others
[00:07:58] who were staying at the retreat while Travis stayed in bed one day. He wasn't feeling up to supper that night, so I told him I would bring something easy to digest back for him.
[00:08:09] It was a group supper provided for everyone staying at the retreat. Among those at the supper was a group of women from Ireland who were participating in ayahuasca ceremonies led by
[00:08:19] a shaman. We didn't know that it was an ayahuasca retreat when we booked our stay, and although we found the experience interesting, we had no intention of participating, especially since Travis was so sick. The chef had cooked up some chicken-free soup for Travis. After I finished my
[00:08:36] meal, I grabbed the soup from the chef and a mug of hot chocolate to bring to Travis in our private cottage. The shaman asked if Travis was okay, and I explained the salmonella episode and reoccurring
[00:08:47] illness. The Irish women participating in the ayahuasca rituals he was leading were all herbalists, so he offered to get some herbal supplements from them that may help with his illness. He also
[00:08:59] offered to come by the cottage and do some energy work with Travis if he felt open to that kind of treatment. I brought the soup and hot chocolate to Travis. He drank half the hot chocolate and
[00:09:10] finished the soup. He said that he would be open to the shaman coming by. The shaman then brought some herbs from the herbalists, and Travis took some. The shaman then explained how negative energy
[00:09:21] can make us more susceptible to illness. He demonstrated on me, pushing down on my hands while I resisted. He then asked me to think of a negative time in my life and then tried to push
[00:09:32] down on my hands. I had a harder time resisting when thinking the negative thoughts. I thought about the death of my grandpa due to cancer. The shaman then began his ritual by spraying some kind
[00:09:44] of water around the room, swishing air out the door, and chanting. Travis was laying on the bed and the shaman asked him to close his eyes. I sat and observed. He began swirling a crystal above
[00:09:57] his chest and chanting. Travis said, that feels so weird, but the shaman wasn't even touching him, just working in his energy field I suppose, which I don't fully understand. More chanting and swirling
[00:10:10] and the shaman finished the ritual and left the cottage. Travis said that he was feeling a bit better but we weren't sure if it was the herbs or the ritual or just coincidence. We turned out the
[00:10:21] lights and tucked in to go to bed. About 20 minutes later we heard what sounded like the spoon rattling in the empty soup bowl. It and the half mug of hot chocolate had been sitting on the bedside table.
[00:10:34] We both heard it and cowered against the wall in the bed. Then we heard it rattle again. Then we heard a splat on the floor like something had spilled. We quickly rummaged around for our phones
[00:10:45] for light. We immediately shone them on the bedside table. The soup bowl was sitting empty with the spoon in it, but the hot chocolate was spilled on the floor beside the bedside table, and the mug was
[00:10:57] sitting empty and upright on the bedside table like it was picked up, tipped over, and then placed back down. We tried to find some logical explanation for what had just happened. We thought maybe a monkey
[00:11:09] got in or maybe a snake, but there was no other sound in the room. The only sound came from the bedside table. We searched the room up and down for some way an animal may have entered the room
[00:11:21] and we found nothing. Still, my mind wanders. Maybe a rat got up on the table. Maybe it was so sneaky until it got to the bowl, but how did it pick up the mug, dump it, and then manage to get it back
[00:11:34] on the table? Maybe a monkey could have, but how did we not hear any other noise but the ting-ting-ting of the spoon and the splat of the hot chocolate? Wouldn't we have heard its footsteps or its escape
[00:11:45] in the dead silence of that little one-room cottage? And wouldn't we have found an entrance and an exit for it? We found no logical explanation and we eventually fell asleep. The next morning, we both went to breakfast, Travis feeling back to his normal self.
[00:12:02] We then saw the shaman and before we could even explain what had happened, he said, you had a visitor, didn't you? We asked how he knew and he said, someone was in the room with
[00:12:12] us last night and is with us right now. Prior to us talking with the shaman that morning, Travis and I discussed the potential of it being a paranormal visitor and wondered who it might be.
[00:12:24] We thought it was maybe Travis's cousin. He had committed suicide shortly before our trip to Peru. We mentioned to the shaman that we thought the visitor was for Travis, his cousin, but the
[00:12:35] shaman said, no, the visitor seems to be for you. I immediately thought that maybe me thinking of my grandpa in the shaman's initial demonstration invited him there with us. The shaman explained that these occurrences happen quite often when he performs rituals because energy fields shift
[00:12:53] and open, allowing them in. We didn't have any experiences after that, although I wish we did so that I could continue piecing together this mystery. This happened maybe five years ago and Travis and I still remember it the same and still haven't come up with a logical explanation.
[00:13:16] Our next experience comes to us from Max and Max's story is called Voices at Night. Max says, Hi Nick, I've just started listening to your podcast a couple days ago. I'm from Victoria
[00:13:30] in Australia and I've decided to share one of my paranormal experiences. One night, I think I was seven or eight. I had gotten up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom and I was walking
[00:13:41] through the hall. I passed my mother's bedroom and my father was on a trip to Queensland and a few more steps later, I was at the toilet. After I washed my hands, I heard a raspy version of my
[00:13:52] mother's voice say my name, dragging out the last two letters. I wasn't too scared as my mom sounded a bit raspy if she was really tired. Now, my parents' door was always open in case we had a
[00:14:05] nightmare or something else. So I walked over to her door and replied, yes? All that came back was snoring. I started hearing breathing in my ear so I sprinted back to my room, shut the door,
[00:14:17] and dashed up the ladder to my bunk bed. I told my mom that morning and it scared the hell out of me. Thank you for reading my story and I wish you and the podcast well. Max. Our next story comes to us
[00:14:34] from Grace and Grace's story is called Spirit Guide Experiences. Grace says, Hi Nick, my sister Elizabeth introduced me to your podcast over a year ago. We both love it. It's what I listen to
[00:14:49] when I want my mind to rest, so to speak. I had been on the fence as to whether or not I should share my experiences that I've had and there was an experience you read recently that I took as a
[00:15:00] sign to submit one of my experiences. I can't remember the episode number, but I remember the listener speaking about how they've always been drawn to Hans Christian Andersen. A little backstory. I'm agnostic, but I'm a big believer in spirit guides and I don't believe they're always
[00:15:17] people that you've known in real life. I had a spirit guide who I believe was a famous figure about nine years ago and I think I may have a new one, another famous figure. I'll keep my stories,
[00:15:29] which are just little snippets over the course of a few years to the spirit guide that I had about nine years ago. In my early mid twenties, I had severe depression and was suicidal at points.
[00:15:41] It's probably worth mentioning that I was not on medication at the time since I didn't have health insurance. What got me through each day was a band from the sixties, but one member in
[00:15:51] particular. It's important to note that this member of the band passed away in 2006. Not only did I love their music, but they inspired me in various ways, such as to start creative writing. I actually
[00:16:04] wound up writing a 100 page story, which I never thought I'd be capable of doing, let alone in my depression. I wrote poetry and other stories as well. I had a picture of the person on my nightstand
[00:16:16] and whenever I was upset, stressed, etc., I'd lay down and study the picture. Their eyes were piercing but kind, and I truly felt a calming energy coming from the person or picture that
[00:16:28] said, everything's all right, just focus on me. I'll help you get through this. The picture and person truly gave me a sense of peace and comfort like I'd never felt before. It was very intense.
[00:16:42] If my family and I were talking about this person, we'd hear strange noises in the house. Not necessarily all the time, but it happened often enough where the noises seemed to be more than a coincidence. Naturally, whenever we'd investigate where the noises came from,
[00:16:57] we didn't find anything. One night my depression was really bad. I was curled up in a chair under a blanket and crying. I was alone in me and my sister's bedroom. I suddenly became aware of a
[00:17:08] presence in the room, and it felt like it was right behind me. I didn't lift the blanket initially because part of me was afraid of seeing someone standing right behind me. After a few minutes,
[00:17:19] I felt something like a hand gently touch the top of my head. It startled me, and I lifted the blanket to look behind me, and no one was there. One morning I woke up around 6am to the feeling
[00:17:32] of someone staring at me. I know this feeling very well because I've woken up this way in the past by pets and family members. The presence felt comforting, and I was actually disappointed when
[00:17:43] I opened my eyes, and no one was there. I believe it was the member of that band that I was drawn to. The experiences that I've had are really just little snippets, and I may share more in the
[00:17:55] future. I'm really curious as to whether your listeners have had similar experiences where they suspected a well-known figure was watching over them. Spirit guides are something I'm researching more these days, especially since I believe that I have a new one. Thank you for reading my snippets,
[00:18:12] and keep up the excellent work. I hope you have a safe and happy new year. Take care. Grace. Our next story of the night comes to us from Mariah, and Mariah's story is called How I Proved I'm a Medium and Girl Scout Ghost Listener Tale. Mariah says,
[00:18:36] Hi Nick, I just started re-listening to your podcast, and I remembered more tales after the doppelganger one. First off, I was working at a deli one night with a friend. While walking past
[00:18:47] the kitchen where she was working, I spotted what looked like a man old enough to be her father standing behind her, trying to get her attention. I've seen enough ghosts to know that he was dead.
[00:18:58] I ignored him at first, but then he saw me looking, and he told me to talk to her for him. But I told him no. After he wouldn't leave me alone, I stopped when no customers were around,
[00:19:09] and asked her if any of her relatives have died. She answered no. I said, well, a male ghost who looks like a relative has been bothering me for some time. He says not to worry about him. He is
[00:19:21] happy, and will watch over you. She stared blankly before asking me what he looked like. I tell her, and she says that it sounds like her uncle, but that he is still alive. I then shrug and look
[00:19:33] past her, telling him that I relayed the message. About an hour after we got off work, she texts me freaking out. Turns out it was her uncle who had died two hours before I saw him. I told her I was
[00:19:45] sorry for the news, and she thanked me for passing on his message, and she often asks me if I see anyone around her. So as I was growing up near a big city, I went to a Girl Scout camp. As is normal,
[00:19:59] girls begin telling ghost stories, and I ask them to stop, as I used to get spooked easily. They ignored me and ended up scaring me so bad that a counselor got involved,
[00:20:09] which means I was no longer cool. But I didn't care. I got up late at night and was walking to the bathroom from the cabin, and I swear that I saw or felt someone following me in the woods.
[00:20:21] I freaked out and had a counselor walk me back to my cabin, feeling the thing staring at me the whole time. I thought nothing of it after the sun came up, and I enjoyed the second day of my trip.
[00:20:32] With no further issues, I forgot about this incident. That is until I began having weird things go on at my home. Scratching and wheezing noises in my closet. Creepy girls laughing and slamming doors. Seeing faces outside open windows of cars and houses. Entities calling my name over
[00:20:51] and over in various voices. Even my mom's. It even felt like it was following me all day. And this happened for years. One day I did a cleansing spell with salt, and all of it just
[00:21:03] stopped. I had seen its face several times, as I can see through the veil. I didn't know why on earth this thing was bothering me for so long until I drove past the sign for the cabins when
[00:21:14] I turned 31. I saw the spirit again standing by the sign for the cabins. That spirit that tormented me for so long came from the Girl Scout woods. Being a medium means that I've seen lots
[00:21:27] of ghosts, and I'll have to tell you about the ghost mummy in the Hanging Judge Museum. Our next experience of the night comes to us from Josh, and Josh's story is called Very Creepy Ghost Incident. Josh says,
[00:21:47] Hello! I'd like to take the time before I tell my story to thank you. I listen to your podcast, and not only do I enjoy the stories, but your stories give me a chance to unwind and relax
[00:21:57] from my hectic lifestyle, and that goes a long way with me. I'll start off by saying that I have plenty of stories from when I was young to even now, but something more recent happened to me
[00:22:08] that creeped me out so much that I had to write to you to tell you and the listeners of my experience. I work as a property maintenance technician in Ohio at a few very old apartment buildings,
[00:22:20] so there's plenty of stories that I hear all the time. I never really experienced anything, though, until yesterday, December 30th, 2021. Our apartments are a bit like a hotel. We have hallways, a main lobby entrance area, and a back entrance as well. I do rounds in each building
[00:22:37] every morning from 8 to 9 am, and then again before I leave at 4 pm to make sure all the doors are locked and ensure that all vacant units aren't being squatted. Yesterday I was doing my
[00:22:49] rounds like I always do when I heard distressful pleas for help and banging on the door coming from one of what was supposed to be a vacant unit, so I rushed to the door because it sounded like a child
[00:23:01] was in trouble. I scrambled for my keys, a little scared of what I might end up witnessing, but when I finally unlocked the door and swung it open, there was absolutely no one in the room. No more
[00:23:13] sounds. Nothing. A neighboring unit's tenant came out and said she heard it too and was going to call the police right before I came. I told her that no one was in the unit, and she couldn't
[00:23:24] believe it. That tenant cut her lease early and is moving out next week. As for me, I'm still working here, but I've asked one of the other maintenance techs to do the rounds at that apartment building because after that incident, I'm a bit afraid that it'll happen again.
[00:23:40] I'm not usually easily frightened, but that absolutely frightened me to my core. Thank you so much for allowing me to tell my story, and I'll continue listening to your podcast. And if requested,
[00:23:53] I'll tell you more stories from my past and share pictures that go along with them, if you'd like. Josh. As tonight's edition of Paranormal Mysteries comes to a close, I appreciate each and every one
[00:24:07] of you for listening. And a special thank you goes out to Cody, Brooke, Laurel, Max, Grace, Mariah, and Josh for sharing their experiences. And if you've encountered something unexplainable, you may contact me through email or voice message on our website and via the links in the show notes.
[00:24:30] Until next time, I hope you all have a safe and healthy rest of the week, and I'll see you back here on Friday as we uncover even more experiences involving paranormal mysteries.
