Creature on the Deck, Badlands Entity, Michigan Bigfoot & Bones | 368

[00:00:00] Thank you for joining me and welcome. I am your host, Nucrayan.

[00:00:20] Tonight's episode is brought to you by my newest supporter, Rose.

[00:00:25] Thank you so much for making the show possible.

[00:00:29] Our first experience of the night comes to us from Will, and this is Will's experience.

[00:00:36] So I may have finally had a near encounter with Bigfoot, Sasquatch or as my kids and I have nicknamed him Uncle Darryl,

[00:00:44] which is a funny story that I will add at the end.

[00:00:48] So my wife and I are traveling all over, like I told you in a previous email.

[00:00:52] And today around 9.30 pm while we were at an almost deserted rest area in the woods near Port Huron, Michigan,

[00:00:59] I had my first actual interaction and sighting of the Big Harry guy.

[00:01:04] It was dark and damp from small amounts of rain and our dog Piper Ann was throwing a fit, winding and barking.

[00:01:11] I had assumed that she needed to go out to have a potty break so I hooked up her leash and let her out.

[00:01:16] After taking care of business though, she was transfixed on something in the distance in the woods out back the parking area.

[00:01:23] We had been hearing a whistle before letting her out which my wife thought was just Piper Ann whining,

[00:01:28] but I had noticed that it was coming from back in the woods.

[00:01:32] It was possibly a bird, so for fun I whistled back trying to copy the length and pitch.

[00:01:38] It then responded back with another whistle.

[00:01:41] Now it sounded like a mix of a single tweet from a bird, kind of mixed with a mouse squeak.

[00:01:46] It was about 1.5 seconds long holding at the same pitch, like a whistle.

[00:01:52] My dog at this point was getting upset so I brought her back into the car.

[00:01:56] I wish to point out that at the rest area there was only one other car parked nearby.

[00:02:01] It was an older lady in her little dog, sleeping I'm sure at this point because all her windows were up and blocked by various items.

[00:02:09] As for truckers, at this point I saw none resting in the back lot.

[00:02:14] So I'm whistling at it and it's whistling back.

[00:02:17] I thought it was pretty cool and didn't think anything of it but my dog was getting more and more upset.

[00:02:23] That's when it hit me.

[00:02:25] Da, Sasquatch will communicate with whistles sometimes.

[00:02:29] So I make my wife take off her headphones and listen for a bit with me.

[00:02:33] I whistled, it whistled back, and then another whistle came from the back lot where the trucks would park.

[00:02:39] But this whistle was further away.

[00:02:42] My wife went back to watching her phone but I kept up the whistling game.

[00:02:46] Then I heard a tree knock, then a whistle right after.

[00:02:50] And honest to goodness, tree knock.

[00:02:53] After about a half hour of this, it stops for a moment.

[00:02:56] I had my window down for some fresh air and I kid you not Nick.

[00:03:00] Across the way from me I'd say less than 300 feet.

[00:03:03] I saw something big and dark moving.

[00:03:07] Once again I interrupt my wife's show and point out what I'm seeing.

[00:03:11] However even with her glasses she couldn't see it so I decided to try and take a picture with my phone.

[00:03:16] I took two pics and zoomed in to show her what I was seeing.

[00:03:20] You can see the difference in the two pics as it moves.

[00:03:23] After that she went back to her video but I on the other hand was very excited.

[00:03:28] That's when I heard a new noise.

[00:03:31] So imagine a tree knock only if it were done on a lamp pole.

[00:03:35] This seriously freaked out our dog and me too a little.

[00:03:38] A response came from the distant one off in the back that I mentioned earlier, with tree knocks.

[00:03:44] That's when I decided to start writing you this email so the encounter was fresh.

[00:03:49] Currently the whistles are still occurring.

[00:03:52] One close then one far.

[00:03:54] Occasionally there will be a tree knock back and forth.

[00:03:57] Our dog has twice now started barking at my window that special bark reserved for when someone is getting too close.

[00:04:04] And there might be danger but screw it, I'm going to try the big foot call.

[00:04:09] Okay so in all my time camping over many many years I have heard wolves, coyotes, wild hogs, feral cats, big cats.

[00:04:18] Owls, multiple birds, deer, many small animals and humans in the woods.

[00:04:24] I know all of these sounds.

[00:04:26] I've even heard a Sasquatch on my camping trips on a couple of occasions.

[00:04:30] However, what responded to my howl? I have never heard before.

[00:04:35] It was an almost exact copy of my sound except it shattered at the end.

[00:04:41] That is the best word I can think of to describe it.

[00:04:44] If you've ever heard chimpanzees at the zoo before, imagine something like that. Only deeper.

[00:04:50] I stopped trying to listen for a bit. It felt too quiet.

[00:04:55] My dog has calmed down and there is no more whistles or knocks.

[00:05:00] I will try to circle what I saw on the photos and send them along with this email.

[00:05:04] That was kind of weird writing this as it was happening but as I promised you,

[00:05:08] you will be the first person to get my weird encounter stories.

[00:05:11] As my wife and dog and I go off to see the sights and visit some haunted places.

[00:05:17] Oh yeah, for years my boys and I whenever we were out in the woods or camping with someone else

[00:05:22] and some strange sound would be heard, we would always respond with,

[00:05:26] oh don't worry, that's just bigfoot. Sasquatch, Yeti, you know, Uncle Earl.

[00:05:31] But then that wonderful commercial came out for progressive where flow was talking with Bigfoot

[00:05:36] and at the end Bigfoot says, my name is Darryl. So we changed our phrase from Uncle Earl to Uncle Darryl

[00:05:43] and we've been doing it ever since.

[00:05:46] So my friend Nick, I have had a multitude of spirit encounters I've shared with you.

[00:05:50] I have seen a couple of UFOs in my life. I have communicated with both angels as well as demons.

[00:05:56] I believe that I've even seen Fae Folk. But now I can honestly say that I believe I've seen Bigfoot.

[00:06:04] Once again, thank you for all you do for us Paranormies out there and keep up the great work.

[00:06:09] Keeping us informed. Your fellow Paranormy Michigander will, the Wayfinder.

[00:06:18] I have added Will's pictures to the forum and there is also a link in the show notes as well.

[00:06:26] Our next fascinating experience comes to us from Bruce and Bruce's story is called

[00:06:32] Vest Man in the Badlands. Bruce says,

[00:06:37] Greetings Nick. I have been meaning to send you this story for the past 12 months when I first started listening to your podcast.

[00:06:44] The stories that your listeners share are enjoyable, entertaining and thought-provoking, especially while on long car rides.

[00:06:51] My youngest daughter who is 17 is especially a big fan of the Bigfoot Sighting stories.

[00:06:56] My family is not new to the paranormal. We have moved often due to my job and have found ourselves in more than a couple of haunted houses.

[00:07:04] In fact, we believe that Orbs moved along with us on a relocation from Indiana to Tennessee.

[00:07:10] To have my daughters at the time of unpacking, witnessed Orbs fly out of a moving box, circle the room,

[00:07:16] and then disappear into the walls of the bedroom that they were sharing.

[00:07:19] Many a dinner conversation in our family has evolved into the strange goings on we've experienced in the many different homes we have owned or occupied.

[00:07:28] However, this is not the story I want to share with you in this first writing to your show.

[00:07:33] This story happened with my youngest two children while on a camping trip out west during the summer of 2020.

[00:07:40] At the time, my two youngest daughters were 14 and 16. The youngest I will call Cecilia and the older I will call Stella.

[00:07:49] On our way out to Glacier National Park from Tennessee, we stopped at Badlands National Park for a couple of days to do some hiking and take in the otherworldly landscape.

[00:07:59] On the first night of our stay near the Badlands, we had finished dinner and were enjoying a campfire when we realized it was getting late.

[00:08:06] We were admiring the stars in the Milky Way given the clear night and the lack of light pollution.

[00:08:12] The girls then asked about getting further away from the campground so that we could really see the night sky and my wife agreed to clean up the dishes while we had daddy and daughter time.

[00:08:22] On foot, we exited the campground and started down a dirt road that paralleled the National Park. It was extremely dark but the two headlamps we had brought with us kept us on track while walking down the road.

[00:08:34] We walked for about 10 minutes or so until we could no longer see the lights from the campground.

[00:08:40] We then stopped, looked at the sky and marveled at what you could see when you were away from all the man-made lights.

[00:08:47] Before we turned off the headlamps that my daughters were wearing, we looked further down the road and didn't see anything other than grassland, cliffs, and a few trees.

[00:08:56] There are no houses, no lights, and no noise. We truly felt like we were in the middle of nowhere.

[00:09:04] We turned off the headlamps and saw shooting stars, satellites flying overhead, and the second best view of the Milky Way the three of us had seen during our many camping trips together.

[00:09:15] We stood in complete darkness for probably 10 minutes. I then suggested that we should head back to see if mom needed any help shutting the camp down for the night.

[00:09:24] Cecilia, the youngest, turned on her headlamp and first looked down the road in the direction we were initially traveling.

[00:09:31] At this point, she grabbed my shirt and said, Dad, what is that?

[00:09:37] By that time my other daughter Stella was trying to get her headlamps switched on but was not having much luck.

[00:09:43] I heard a bit of a whimper from her as she was now excitedly telling me that her headlamp isn't working and she's asking what the green glowing thing is far down the road.

[00:09:53] Now I was looking in the direction that my youngest daughter was pointing in and finally realized what we were looking at.

[00:10:00] Some 100 yards down the road there appeared to be something person like wearing a neon green reflective safety vest.

[00:10:07] I immediately told the girls that we should get going and head back to the campground.

[00:10:13] At this point, we are now walking briskly and kind of nervously joking around about where Vest Man had come from.

[00:10:20] I couldn't help myself but after a couple of minutes I told Cecilia with the only functioning headlamp to turn around and look back down the road from where we came.

[00:10:29] We all stared in disbelief when we now see that Vest Man was only about 50 yards behind us, clearly much closer than he was before.

[00:10:38] But given the single headlamp all we could really see was the reflective strips on the vest but we all knew that he had covered a lot more ground than we had in the past two minutes.

[00:10:48] Quite frankly I was feeling increasingly uncomfortable about the situation given that I was still a distance away from the campground.

[00:10:55] It seemed as though when we stopped, he stopped as well.

[00:10:59] He did not appear to be moving but only staring in our direction.

[00:11:03] We did not hear any footsteps or noises coming from behind us while we could hear was our own excited and nervous breathing.

[00:11:11] We hastened our pace a bit to make it back to the road the campground was on.

[00:11:15] We then walked another couple of minutes and stopped to look behind us again.

[00:11:19] At this point we now see that Vest Man is only about 30 yards behind us.

[00:11:24] It was definitely a shorter stockier built man wearing a safety vest.

[00:11:29] It looked like he was wearing sunglasses or dark goggles but given the lack of light it was only possible to make out the silhouette of the darkened eyes and the neon colored safety vest.

[00:11:41] We started into a jog to get back to the main road as fast as possible.

[00:11:45] A couple of minutes into our now jog we see the street light from the main road and the campground was just on the other side of this road.

[00:11:52] Once we made it to the safety of the street light we all looked behind us but there was no sign of Vest Man.

[00:11:59] I even took my daughter's headlamp and walked back down the road the way we came to see if I could see him walking back down the road.

[00:12:06] But there was nothing, nothing in this vast open area of South Dakota.

[00:12:13] We made it back to the campsite still a bit out of breath from our unplanned late night jog.

[00:12:18] My wife came out of the trailer and asked why we were huffing and puffing and why we had been gone for so long.

[00:12:24] We told her about Vest Man and insisted that we had only been gone for maybe 35 minutes.

[00:12:29] She shrugged and scoffed a bit informing us that we had actually been gone for well over an hour and that the girls needed to get ready for bad.

[00:12:38] Now in all your shows I've heard listeners talk about Hatman but never Vest Man.

[00:12:44] I'm not sure what we saw that night but it covered ground quickly and silently and then it just seemingly disappeared into the ethos.

[00:12:53] Our best guess continues to be that a deceased highway or construction worker shows up on this empty stretch of road.

[00:13:01] My daughters and I still enjoy stargazing but we are always sure to carry headlamps as well as my 45.

[00:13:09] Thank you for the forum to share this strange and creepy and keep up the good work.

[00:13:16] Stay safe, bruise.

[00:13:55] And with that being said, I'll be right back after these brief messages.

[00:14:01] Our next experience of the night comes to us from Elia and Elia's experience is called Man in the Window.

[00:14:12] Hi Nick, I've been listening to your podcast for a couple of years and I thoroughly enjoy it.

[00:14:17] It encouraged me to tell my own stories which I will talk about here.

[00:14:21] I only have one main story but I have several little incidents that will help provide some context to the story I want to share.

[00:14:29] I am still quite young, barely in my twenties and only just starting to finally realize the implications of some of the experiences I've had throughout my life.

[00:14:39] I was born and raised into Tasmania, Australia.

[00:14:42] Known to be the most haunted state in Australia, ghost tours and historical sites rich with history litter both the main cities and the distant countryside.

[00:14:51] From the east coast to the town of Hobart, our history is rich with stories of conflicts as well as war between the Aboriginal peoples and the Europeans.

[00:15:01] As such this history was a large part of my childhood and even my adulthood.

[00:15:06] Just a hop, skip and jump away from my workplace is a penitentiary chapel that allegedly houses many unruly and aggressive spirits.

[00:15:14] Yet ghost tours there are rampant and widely sought out to this day.

[00:15:19] The most haunted place down south is Port Arthur, a former prison for the worst of the worst.

[00:15:24] And yet this was a perfect place for a family day out or a school excursion but I digress.

[00:15:31] As a young child I realized that I could see things a lot of other people seemingly could not.

[00:15:37] I would see shadows move, eyes in the dark and I would hear whispers.

[00:15:41] People would brush this off as a child's imagination and as I got older I soon did too.

[00:15:47] I assumed that the stories of the ghosts in our town were just that, stories.

[00:15:52] My imagination had always been vivid and after being told over and over that it wasn't real and I was just seeing things I started to believe it but even so I would still see things in the corner of my eye.

[00:16:04] I would always feel someone or some things eyes on me from the dark and all of this came to a head when I was 14 years old.

[00:16:15] At the time my mother was pregnant and as such we needed to move out to find a home that would be big enough to house the two parents and soon to be three children that would live in the house.

[00:16:25] We soon found one on the edge of town and we promptly moved in. The house itself was not isolated but the backyard was a vast expanse of the bush.

[00:16:34] We had no fence, simply endless forest to explore so naturally I would spend every waking moment exploring the bush.

[00:16:42] I never strayed too far from home but there was one particular day where I was feeling adventurous and I went a little further than I usually did.

[00:16:52] I wandered for hours, not lost but enjoying myself, at least that was until I came across an old swing-set.

[00:16:59] There was nothing inherently strange about the swing-set itself. It was old, rusting and the wood of the seat had decayed enough that it was weathered and falling apart.

[00:17:08] But the thing that unsettled me was the fact that it was so far out into the bush. What was it doing there? Who brought it here and why would they have ever thought about doing so?

[00:17:18] I looked around wondering if there was anything else nearby. I then found a set of train tracks less than two meters away from the swing-set but if anything I thought the swing-set was even more strange.

[00:17:31] Eventually I found myself plucking up the courage to go and sit on the swing-set and use it because what else is a 14-year-old going to do?

[00:17:39] But the moment I sat down, I heard a loud scream. I don't know if the two were connected but the air around me suddenly felt thick and a chill ran down my spine.

[00:17:50] In that moment my gut told me that I needed to go home.

[00:17:55] After this incident I found that I felt as though something was watching me at all times. If surrounded by people the feeling was much less oppressive, but when I was alone, I never felt truly alone.

[00:18:08] Even when dreaming I felt like something was following me.

[00:18:13] This leads to 2017, the year that I moved into the house I currently share with my parents and my two younger sisters.

[00:18:21] My bedroom is at the front of the house next to the front door. If you were to open the front door you would be in a long echoing corridor and my bedroom was the first room on the left.

[00:18:31] My room had no windows except for the large one that took up the entire wall on the left hand side. The window overlooked the front deck which was where people would hang up their laundry or stand to watch the rain.

[00:18:43] From this window one would be able to see most of the neighborhood. I never liked sleeping near windows so my bed was on the opposite side of the room, neatly pressed up against the wall.

[00:18:54] But after some time I realized that there was a perfectly understandable reason to avoid the window, especially at night.

[00:19:03] At first I would just hear pacing on the deck at ungodly hours of the night, 1am, 4am, 11pm. It didn't matter when it was, it would always be dark and everyone else in the house would be asleep.

[00:19:17] At first I thought it was just some random creep, but after gathering my courage in sneaking up to the window a couple of times and peeking behind the curtain, I didn't see anything, and immediately I realized that I was dealing with something else.

[00:19:31] I went to my parents after the first few incidents and they once again brushed it off as my active imagination, but eventually my sister who was only nine at the time told me that she heard it too.

[00:19:44] We tried to come up with a way to record this, to prove that I wasn't making it up and that she could hear it too, but we were unsuccessful.

[00:19:51] We tried recording it on an iPod which was the only way that we could. Our parents didn't let us keep phones in our bedrooms, and we didn't have any other options for gathering evidence at the time.

[00:20:02] Eventually it got to the point where my parents tried to call my bluff, they told me that I was scaring my sister out of her wits and that if this continued to happen they would have to call the police to get them to investigate.

[00:20:14] Needless to say I didn't mention it in their company again after that, and I made my sister promise not to tell them about it either.

[00:20:23] Not long after this the pacing on the front deck became more than just a sound, and entities soon materialized to go with them.

[00:20:32] The creature was pure black, darker than the sky outside. It would stand there and stare at me through the crack in the curtains as my curtains often did not close all the way.

[00:20:42] It would stand there and stare at me for any amount of time between an hour and a few minutes. Then it would abruptly step away and resume its pacing before disappearing entirely.

[00:20:54] My sister never saw the entity as she did not have a window that would allow her to see it. I did tell her on several occasions about it, but after she grew reasonably distressed I opted to drop it as I didn't want to frighten her to the point that she would not be able to sleep easily.

[00:21:10] However, everything came to a head one night when my mother forgot to lock the front door.

[00:21:17] That night everything went as usual, the entity came, saw and paced as it often did, but when I awoke the following morning my sister and I found muddy footprints leading down the corridor past our bedrooms.

[00:21:31] The prints were not there the night before, and neither my sister nor myself got up during the course of the night.

[00:21:38] Since the incident I have made sure to lock the door every single night myself.

[00:21:43] The creature now inserts itself into my dreams particularly before something of a large impact is about to happen.

[00:21:50] It came to my dreams the night my grandfather passed away a little over a year ago, and it made an awful animalistic sobbing sound that has stuck with me.

[00:22:00] I am about to move out of my home for the first time, and I can only hope that I will at least bring the creature with me so that my sister can sleep easily.

[00:22:12] Thank you again for listening, and I hope you enjoy the rest of your day.

[00:22:17] Keep up the good work, and I look forward to listening to more of your episodes.

[00:22:25] Our next experience of the night comes to us from Cameron, and Cameron's experience is called Don't Take Bones.

[00:22:35] Hi Nick, I've been following your podcast for about two weeks now and I'm almost 150 episodes in.

[00:22:42] It's great to see such a cultivated community of those willing to talk about their experiences, and I personally was motivated to write by one of your podcasts I just listened to, which reminded me of a similar ominous clearing.

[00:22:54] In the middle of a forest.

[00:22:57] Roughly 15 or 16 years ago when I was 12 or 13, I was active in the Boy Scouts in my community.

[00:23:03] My troop would do one yearly trip to the Covira Scout Ranch.

[00:23:06] This was a ranch or property previously owned by Native Americans that spans more than 3,000 acres of wooded, rugged, sprawling solitude in the Midwest.

[00:23:16] We would camp there for nearly a week and work on our badges while cooking all food over a fire using tin foil, and even fishing.

[00:23:24] When we had free time, myself and a couple of friends left to go hiking throughout the expansive 3,000 acres of heavily wooded area, so long as we kept the trails already made.

[00:23:35] The entire ranch encompasses beautiful rolling hills that are massively forested, around a singular, giant lake.

[00:23:42] Needless to say, we strayed from this path many times over the week we were there, but we made sure to mark the trees indicating the direction we had already been.

[00:23:51] When we near day 6 of our outing, my friends and I wanted to go as far as we could, ignoring the previously marked trees that we had followed, and we went completely off the trail.

[00:24:02] As I said in the beginning of this story, we came across a clearing in the middle of this heavily forested Native American campground.

[00:24:09] It was a near perfect 100 meter circle of grass, but we noticed something more interesting than just a clearing in the middle of the forest.

[00:24:17] We saw stones stacked throughout the middle of this clearing, and we decided to take a look.

[00:24:23] There were several stones sticking out of the ground half buried as though they had been here for decades, but as 13-year-olds, we saw this as an adventure.

[00:24:31] We approached the middle of the clearing and explored between those strategically placed stones before I noticed one particular stack of half buried stones.

[00:24:40] There were three stones, two were roughly two feet apart, and the third flanked them.

[00:24:45] A fourth stone laid across the three, creating a sort of cubby, where a one foot wide by five inch gap existed between the ground.

[00:24:53] I immediately thought of the 2001 movie The Mummy Returns, and I reached my hand into this gap of placed stones.

[00:25:01] I pretended to have my hand eaten as a bad joke, and no one fell for it of course, but I did feel something slender, smooth, and unnatural.

[00:25:11] Naturally, I grabbed it and pulled it from the small rock cubby. It was an incredibly long 9-10 inch picked clean bone.

[00:25:20] As a 13-year-old, I must not have connected the dots and thought that it was just a simple animal bone, and I took it as a prize, or souvenir.

[00:25:29] We finished our last day, and I returned home 100 miles away, and set the bone I kept on my dresser as some sort of trophy.

[00:25:37] I fell asleep that night in my bunk bed. I slept on the bottom bed. The upper bed was vacant, as my sisters slept in a room next to me, and my brother slept in the basement now that he was old enough.

[00:25:49] I still had not conquered my fear of the dark, and a small night light illuminated my room, as I slept.

[00:25:56] After I fell asleep, which felt like a second, I awoke in a room I was not familiar with. As I was still waking up, I was terrified.

[00:26:05] I was in a room I didn't know, and I had no idea how I got there. After five minutes of being terrified, I realized I had somehow sleepwalked into my sister's room, and awoke in the middle of her floor.

[00:26:16] I had never sleepwalked before, so this was terrifying, but I made my way back to my room, and I slept until the night was over.

[00:26:25] After a regular day, night came once again after my first ever sleepwalking stunt, but this time I awoke in my own bed, my night light dimly illuminating my room, and I found myself unable to move.

[00:26:39] This was like sleep paralysis, but I remember seeing the bone that I took sitting calmly on my dresser across from me. It was then that I was filled with terror.

[00:26:50] I watched as a shadow moved across my bedroom wall, the shadow was thin, humanoid, and pitch dark.

[00:26:57] I could see long hair flowing behind the shadow as it moved, as if it were submerged in water, and it glided.

[00:27:04] Words cannot describe the amount of fear I felt, and I am convinced this fear is what prevented me from calling out for my parents, or moving a finger.

[00:27:13] As the shadow moved across my wall, I noticed it shrunk the closer it moved to the bone until it disappeared completely.

[00:27:21] I am convinced that this was not sleep paralysis, because I remained awake for a solid 15 minutes, unable to move from pure fear, even after the shadow had disappeared.

[00:27:31] After I was convinced it was finally over, I could move. No prayer, no internal monologue. The fear had just finally subsided.

[00:27:41] I left my room and slept in the living room until my father woke me and asked me what was wrong.

[00:27:46] I described to him exactly what happened, and he entered my room to investigate. He saw the bone I had taken and interrogated me about it.

[00:27:55] Where did you get this? How long have you had this? Etc.

[00:27:59] I told him the truth. Finally my father said that we must take this back immediately, and so we did.

[00:28:06] That day my father excused me from school, so we could make the one and a half hour drive back to Quivera Scout Ranch,

[00:28:13] retrace our steps through our previously marked hiking trails, and return the bone to where I found it.

[00:28:19] I have never had sleep paralysis. If this was sleep paralysis, it was a miracle because I had never had it before, and I have never had it since.

[00:28:29] It happened only once when I stole a bone from what I presume was a burial site.

[00:28:35] I am 28 years old, and this wonderful community has sparked me to share my story, and I thank you, Nick.

[00:28:42] The moral of my story. Don't. Take bones.
