[00:00:00] Tonight's episode is brought to you by my newest supporters Charlotte, David and Stephanie.
[00:00:06] Thank you for making the show possible.
[00:00:25] Thank you for listening and welcome back.
[00:00:27] I'm your host, Nick Ryan.
[00:00:31] Tonight's first experience comes to us from Selena and Selena's experience is called
[00:00:37] Bedroom Scares.
[00:00:39] Selena says,
[00:00:42] Hello, Nick.
[00:00:43] I started listening to your podcast while cleaning my room one day and hearing the stories reminded
[00:00:47] me of experiences that I had as a child but never encountered again.
[00:00:53] Story 1
[00:00:54] When I was five, I would sometimes see a figure standing near my door before I went to sleep.
[00:00:59] It was a man about the height of my doorframe and when I flinched and closed my eyes,
[00:01:04] he would disappear.
[00:01:05] He would sometimes reappear above my bed as if stuck on the ceiling.
[00:01:10] I only remember seeing him two or three times, but never again.
[00:01:15] Story 2
[00:01:16] This also happened when I was five.
[00:01:19] When I got scared, I would hide under my covers or run in sleep in my parents' bed.
[00:01:24] I slept in a small bedroom with a window above my bed.
[00:01:27] To this day, no one believes what I saw.
[00:01:30] I always get told that my experiences were just dreams, but I believe this one felt
[00:01:34] the most real in the moment.
[00:01:37] One night, as I was trying to fall asleep, my heart began to raise and I heard it loudly
[00:01:42] in my ears.
[00:01:43] I hid under the covers paranoid about feeling watched.
[00:01:47] When I peeked over the covers, I saw what looked like cages and a man.
[00:01:52] Inside these cages were creatures I had never seen before.
[00:01:55] They were made from different parts of normal animals we all know and love, but
[00:01:59] these were not as lovable.
[00:02:02] These animals had sharp teeth and were looking at me.
[00:02:05] The man was standing near the bottom left side of my bed.
[00:02:09] I hid under my covers again, hoping that when I looked they would be gone, a mirage of my
[00:02:15] exhaustion plus my paranoia.
[00:02:18] But when I moved the covers, they were still there.
[00:02:21] I was too scared to get up and get out of my room, so I tried to call out for
[00:02:25] my dad who was in his gaming room.
[00:02:27] When I screamed, nothing came out of my mouth.
[00:02:30] I tried to ask the man standing at the end of my bed,
[00:02:33] who are you?
[00:02:34] While also screaming for my dad, but again, nothing came out of my mouth.
[00:02:39] Finally I summoned the courage to run out of my room to my dad.
[00:02:43] I told him what happened and he said that it was probably just a dream.
[00:02:46] He told me though that I could sleep in my parents room, which was right across from mine.
[00:02:51] When I looked back in my room, the figures were gone.
[00:02:55] I went into my parents room and when I closed my eyes, I felt something crawling on the covers.
[00:03:00] When I opened them, I saw a giant tarantula crawling on my blanket, going toward my face, super fast.
[00:03:08] I kicked the covers and it disappeared.
[00:03:11] To this day, I have never had another experience like this, but my dad does not remember it.
[00:03:16] It has been ten years now and I remember it as if it were a memory.
[00:03:22] Selena, our next experience comes to us from Macy and Macy's story is called
[00:03:31] Is It Me or the House?
[00:03:34] Macy says,
[00:03:35] Hey Nick, thank you so much for taking the time to read my story and giving your listeners a place to convey their experiences without judgment.
[00:03:43] I have always been one that was curious about the paranormal and if it was real.
[00:03:48] Well, after my father passed away suddenly in 2020 and the years since, I have no doubt in my mind.
[00:03:55] To give a little backstory, my father was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2015.
[00:04:00] After many years of remission and good health, his cancer came back suddenly and with a vengeance.
[00:04:06] We were aware of his fragile state but tried to find normalcy any place we could.
[00:04:11] My two sisters and parents live in the North Georgia mountains while I live in central Florida.
[00:04:16] In February of 2020, my oldest sister planned to fly down to Florida to see me
[00:04:21] and we would spend a few days on the beach catching up.
[00:04:25] Well, the night before our big trip, I heard a voice or subconscious strike me with urgency to get to my dad immediately.
[00:04:32] The calling was so strong I called my sister and informed her of my intentions of canceling our trip
[00:04:38] and driving to see our dad as quick as I could and that something was definitely not right.
[00:04:44] My sister, as understanding issue was, still flew to the beach with her husband to enjoy the long weekend anyway.
[00:04:50] The next morning, my husband, son and I drove to see my parents.
[00:04:55] On our way, my mother informed us that my dad declined quickly and that he was rushed to the hospital.
[00:05:01] Needless to say, our emotions were on high.
[00:05:04] While my mom stayed at the hospital to keep an eye on my dad,
[00:05:07] my husband, son and I went back to my childhood home to catch up on some sleep
[00:05:12] before heading back to the hospital the next morning.
[00:05:14] Once we arrived at the house, we put my son to sleep being that it was past 10 p.m.
[00:05:19] My husband and I then sat in the living room and we tried to come to terms with what was happening with my dad.
[00:05:26] While talking, we suddenly heard a distinct wood creak that occurs only when someone is physically walking into the kitchen.
[00:05:33] At the time, we both froze, thinking that our son was awake and trying to sneak through the house.
[00:05:38] So we checked on him only to discover that he was sound asleep.
[00:05:42] My husband and I brushed off the occurrence and we chalked it up to the house just settling.
[00:05:47] Even though we were both well aware of the difference in stepping vs settling within the house.
[00:05:54] That night, while we were asleep, I felt a weird feeling that I was being stared at.
[00:05:59] When I opened my eyes, there was a boy, not my son, standing about five feet away, staring at me.
[00:06:05] He had dark hair and dark clothes on, but I could not clearly see the details of his face.
[00:06:10] I shot up immediately only to find that the boy was no longer there.
[00:06:15] Now I have never seen an apparition before and I was not really sure how to handle it.
[00:06:20] Naturally, during this time, I gasped and it woke up my husband.
[00:06:23] I told him what I saw and we again checked on our son only to confirm that he was still sound asleep.
[00:06:31] The next couple days following this event were some of the roughest days of my life.
[00:06:36] My father slipped into a coma and was sent to the ICU in preparation to pass.
[00:06:41] I called my sister immediately and told her to get home as soon as possible.
[00:06:45] By some miracle, my dad knew that my sister was not there yet and to hold on.
[00:06:50] He held on for eight hours just long enough for my sister to get there.
[00:06:55] She was there five minutes before my dad passed.
[00:06:58] It's like he knew that he could not pass unless he had all of his girls surrounding him.
[00:07:04] The next night following his passing, trying my best to console my mother, I slept in the bed with her.
[00:07:10] In the middle of the night, she got up to go to the bathroom when I heard her suddenly gasp.
[00:07:15] Being the light sleeper that I am, I rolled over and asked her what was wrong.
[00:07:20] She then giggled to herself and she said,
[00:07:22] I thought I just saw a boy standing next to you for a moment.
[00:07:26] Needless to say, I was shocked by this statement but I did not want to scare my mother
[00:07:30] who was about to be in her house alone after my sister and I went home.
[00:07:35] I saw several shadow figures and I heard footsteps throughout the house
[00:07:38] during the two weeks I was at my childhood home.
[00:07:41] I don't know how to explain it but I just knew that something was in our house now.
[00:07:45] Even when I asked my family about it, no one else seemed to notice.
[00:07:50] About a month after these events, my cousin reached out to tell me about a dream that she had of my dad.
[00:07:56] She said that in her dream, she was coming down a hill to a river
[00:07:59] and my dad was floating down the river with a boy that she had never seen before
[00:08:03] and they both had the biggest smile on their face.
[00:08:06] Now I never told her about my mother and I seeing a little boy
[00:08:10] but it was relieving to know that my dad took the boy with him on his way to heaven.
[00:08:15] Unbeknownst to us at the time, my oldest sister was pregnant
[00:08:18] and didn't know it during the time of my father's passing.
[00:08:21] I should probably also add that I am a hobbyist photographer
[00:08:25] so after my sister gave birth to a new baby girl
[00:08:27] we decided to take pictures of her at my parents' house when we all got together.
[00:08:32] I was floored when editing the pictures to find my father's face in the tree in the background.
[00:08:37] I have included this picture for your listeners to see.
[00:08:41] Fast forward to July of 2023,
[00:08:44] my husband and I are visiting my mother and decided to sleep on the third floor
[00:08:48] which happens to be my parents' old master bedroom
[00:08:50] before they created a new master bedroom on the main floor.
[00:08:54] The floor in this room creaks with every step.
[00:08:57] Well, during this visit as we were all heading to bed and brought our dogs upstairs with us
[00:09:02] while laying in the bed trying to go to sleep
[00:09:05] we heard what we thought was one of our dogs pacing the floor.
[00:09:08] We finally got annoyed enough that my husband and I both sat up to tell our dogs to go and lay down
[00:09:13] only to discover that both dogs slinked off downstairs at some point
[00:09:17] and there was no true source of the pacing that we had heard.
[00:09:21] My husband and I just gave each other a look
[00:09:24] and we tried to forget what just happened.
[00:09:27] The next morning my husband got up early to let out our dogs.
[00:09:31] While he was getting ready, we both heard a voice say,
[00:09:34] Hey! from downstairs.
[00:09:36] Again, we both gave each other a look confirming that we both heard a male voice say, Hey!
[00:09:42] Now it was not a voice I recognized so we proceeded to check the house
[00:09:45] only to find our son and mother were sound asleep
[00:09:48] and no one else was there.
[00:09:51] Now, I don't feel any evil associated with this entity
[00:09:55] and I try to be as respectful and not bother this being whoever it may be.
[00:09:59] Oh! and my family still swears up and down that they have never experienced anything like this in the house
[00:10:05] so I have to wonder if it's me or the house.
[00:10:09] Thank you so much for listening to my story.
[00:10:12] I am still trying to navigate this new reality of mine.
[00:10:15] If any of your listeners have any tips, I would love to hear them.
[00:10:19] Best wishes.
[00:10:21] Macy
[00:10:24] I have added Macy's photo to the forum and there is also a link in the show notes.
[00:10:32] Our next experience of the night comes to us from Erica.
[00:10:35] An Erica's story is called,
[00:10:37] Theatre, Fire.
[00:10:40] Erica says,
[00:10:41] Hi Nick, I am excited to share my story with you.
[00:10:45] A few years ago some friends and I went on a ghost tour in Chicago.
[00:10:48] We went to a theater house that today is still in operation
[00:10:52] although years ago it was a different building
[00:10:54] and our guide told us that it had been called the Iroquois Theatre before it caught on fire.
[00:10:59] The night of the tour we were in an alley beside the theater
[00:11:03] and I noticed a poster on the side of the building for an upcoming play
[00:11:06] which I knew my spouse would like to see.
[00:11:09] I wandered down the alley to take a picture of the poster
[00:11:12] and no one else was around me and there were no children on the tour with us.
[00:11:16] I snapped a few pictures then returned to the rest of the group.
[00:11:19] Now I didn't think too much more about that stop
[00:11:22] and it wasn't until later when my spouse was looking through the pictures that I had taken
[00:11:26] that I was called over to the computer to look at the images of that stop.
[00:11:30] In one of those pictures there is an image of a child.
[00:11:33] I believe it's a boy.
[00:11:35] He looks to be around 10 from what I can see
[00:11:38] and he is looking back toward the building as he runs away
[00:11:41] as if watching to make sure he is free of the blaze.
[00:11:44] Now as I stated there were no children on this tour
[00:11:47] and I was well away from the rest of the group
[00:11:49] and no one else was anywhere near me.
[00:11:52] I have always believed that we share this world with entities that we are normally unaware of
[00:11:56] and this just solidified this for me.
[00:11:59] The real bonus is having this amazing picture to share with and amaze all of my friends.
[00:12:05] A friend of mine took some other images where the sinking of the Eastland ship happened
[00:12:09] in the Chicago River
[00:12:11] but that is another story for another time.
[00:12:15] As so many others have said and I will restate
[00:12:18] thank you for your podcast
[00:12:20] and giving us a place to share our stories
[00:12:23] with so many others.
[00:12:26] I am currently waiting to receive the picture that Erica mentioned
[00:12:29] and when I do
[00:12:30] I'll be sure to add it to our forum.
[00:12:40] Before I continue
[00:12:41] please consider showing your support by subscribing, sharing
[00:12:44] and giving the podcast a positive review.

[00:12:50] or even on PayPal
[00:12:52] where you can make a donation or become a member for as little as a dollar a month.

[00:12:58] you can share it with me through email or voice message
[00:13:01] and all of my support and contact information
[00:13:03] can be found at paranormalmysteriespodcast.com
[00:13:07] as well as in the show notes.
[00:13:09] And with that being said
[00:13:11] I'll be right back
[00:13:12] after these brief messages.
[00:13:18] Our next experience comes to us from Zinnia
[00:13:21] and Zinnia's story is called
[00:13:23] patio swing.
[00:13:26] Hello Nick
[00:13:27] I have been enjoying your podcast for quite some time now.
[00:13:29] I think I've listened to all the stories
[00:13:31] so I'm re-listening to all the episodes.
[00:13:33] It is my go-to podcast when I'm traveling.
[00:13:36] I listen to it on road trips,
[00:13:38] plane trips,
[00:13:38] train trips, etc.
[00:13:40] and lately on my way home from work.
[00:13:43] You have a wonderful community here
[00:13:45] and I am thankful for it.
[00:13:47] I would like to share not just my own experiences
[00:13:49] but stories that were shared to me by friends and family.
[00:13:53] Hopefully this will be the first of many.
[00:13:55] So here it goes.
[00:13:57] This happened many summers ago
[00:13:58] when I was in my early teens.
[00:14:01] My siblings and I are friends
[00:14:02] with all the kids who lived in our street.
[00:14:05] Being that school was out
[00:14:06] our house became hangout central
[00:14:08] for our neighborhood friends that summer.
[00:14:10] All the homes in that neighborhood
[00:14:11] are all fenced in
[00:14:12] and made of cinder blocks and gated
[00:14:14] so no one can just really walk up to the front doors
[00:14:17] because of the fence and gates.
[00:14:20] Our street is on an incline or slope
[00:14:22] so we can still see our neighbors front door and patio
[00:14:25] even with the fences
[00:14:26] because of the way the street slopes up and down.
[00:14:28] The properties were fairly small
[00:14:31] and this will all make sense later.
[00:14:33] There were probably nine of us
[00:14:35] hanging out that hot summer day in our yard.
[00:14:37] Our friends C and J
[00:14:39] went to C's house
[00:14:40] which was literally one house away to get something
[00:14:43] and not even a few minutes later
[00:14:45] they came running down the street screaming
[00:14:47] and when asked what was going on
[00:14:49] C replied
[00:14:50] we saw this lady standing by our front door
[00:14:53] and she's a ghost.
[00:14:55] Now as I mentioned earlier
[00:14:56] the houses are fenced in and gated
[00:14:58] so no one can really just walk up to any of the front doors.
[00:15:02] Now although C and J look shaken up
[00:15:05] I don't think any of us took C seriously
[00:15:07] because C is known for being a little
[00:15:09] extra.
[00:15:10] However, I guess with kids just being kids
[00:15:12] we kind of moved on
[00:15:14] and continued doing whatever it was
[00:15:15] we were doing at that time
[00:15:17] but I think about five to ten minutes or so
[00:15:19] after C and J came running back to our house.
[00:15:22] C grabbed my arm
[00:15:24] and when I looked at her
[00:15:25] her eyes were wide with fear
[00:15:27] and she said
[00:15:28] that lady
[00:15:29] she's on our patio swing
[00:15:31] look
[00:15:32] from where we were at our house
[00:15:34] we could see C's front patio
[00:15:36] with their patio swing
[00:15:38] and when I looked up
[00:15:39] someone was sitting on their patio swing
[00:15:41] but all I could see was the back of their head.
[00:15:44] I remember kind of blinking
[00:15:46] and taking another step forward
[00:15:47] to get a better look
[00:15:48] because while I could see the back of the head
[00:15:50] the head was small like that of a toddler.
[00:15:53] I could see the entire back of the head
[00:15:55] but the rest of it was obscured by the backrest
[00:15:57] of the patio swing.
[00:15:59] The hair was thinning
[00:16:00] as I could see the scalp
[00:16:01] and the hair was wavy or curly
[00:16:03] but I remember it being a little
[00:16:06] wet.
[00:16:07] Now at this point I must have screamed
[00:16:09] because pandemonium broke
[00:16:11] all our other friends started screaming
[00:16:13] and running in all directions.
[00:16:14] I stayed where I was
[00:16:16] and so did C
[00:16:17] who still had a dead grip on my arm
[00:16:19] but I remember looking at C
[00:16:21] after I saw this head
[00:16:22] and then looking back up at the patio swing
[00:16:25] which probably took two seconds or less
[00:16:27] and when I looked back up
[00:16:29] it was gone
[00:16:30] but the patio swing
[00:16:32] was swinging
[00:16:33] on its own.
[00:16:35] Now I've been to C's house many times
[00:16:37] we know their family
[00:16:38] and no one in their household
[00:16:39] fits the description of what I saw.
[00:16:42] Her parents were both at work at that time
[00:16:44] and C and her brother K
[00:16:45] were with us hanging out.
[00:16:48] Years later I asked my siblings
[00:16:49] and some friends who were there
[00:16:51] if they saw what C and I saw
[00:16:53] and truthfully they said that
[00:16:54] they just got scared
[00:16:55] because they saw me look up and scream
[00:16:58] and they didn't even bother
[00:16:59] to look at C's patio swing
[00:17:01] and they just noped out
[00:17:03] of our yard.
[00:17:05] Thank you again Nick
[00:17:06] for this community
[00:17:07] and if the story somehow finds it
[00:17:09] to your podcast
[00:17:10] thank you for that as well.
[00:17:13] Good blessings to you
[00:17:14] and all your listeners.
[00:17:16] Sincerely
[00:17:18] Zinnia
[00:17:22] Our next experience comes to us from Morgan
[00:17:25] and Morgan's story is called
[00:17:27] The First Encounter.
[00:17:30] Hello
[00:17:31] my wife and I have been listening
[00:17:32] to your podcast for about a year now
[00:17:34] I decided why not go ahead
[00:17:36] and tell my stories
[00:17:37] the story I'm about to tell you
[00:17:39] I do not personally remember
[00:17:41] my dad is the one who told me
[00:17:42] about it later on
[00:17:43] in my childhood.
[00:17:46] Growing up I was in and out of the hospital
[00:17:48] for multiple health problems.
[00:17:50] When I was five years old
[00:17:51] I had to have heart surgery.
[00:17:53] I do remember waking up in recovery
[00:17:55] but it's very hazy.
[00:17:56] I remember a nurse talking to me
[00:17:58] after the surgery
[00:17:59] and after she left
[00:18:00] an older couple walked in
[00:18:02] smiling at me.
[00:18:03] I didn't know who they were
[00:18:05] and I just assumed that they were family
[00:18:07] since the older woman held my hand
[00:18:09] and they stood by me
[00:18:10] until the nurse came back in
[00:18:11] and took me to my hospital room.
[00:18:14] When I got home from the procedure
[00:18:16] and was bedridden
[00:18:17] my dad showed me a picture of the older couple
[00:18:19] asking me if I knew who they were.
[00:18:21] I immediately recognized them
[00:18:23] from my recovery room
[00:18:24] and I told my dad that they visited me
[00:18:26] while I was in recovery.
[00:18:28] I had mostly forgotten about the encounter
[00:18:30] after that
[00:18:31] since I have blocked out
[00:18:32] a lot of my hospital visits
[00:18:33] from my childhood.
[00:18:34] But my dad brought up the encounter again
[00:18:37] when I was a teenager
[00:18:38] and told me that the couple
[00:18:39] that I had seen in the recovery room
[00:18:41] where no family was allowed
[00:18:43] were his grandparents.
[00:18:45] They passed away a few years
[00:18:47] before I was born.
[00:18:49] That was just the start
[00:18:51] of my paranormal encounters
[00:18:52] and I will definitely send more of them
[00:18:54] later.
[00:18:56] Thank you very much for your time.
[00:18:58] Morgan.
[00:19:02] Our next experience comes to us from Morgan
[00:19:05] and Morgan's experience is called
[00:19:08] Ouija board.
[00:19:10] Morgan says,
[00:19:11] Hello.
[00:19:12] Growing up I was a devout Christian
[00:19:14] and didn't believe in the paranormal.
[00:19:16] However,
[00:19:17] the crowd of friends I hung around with
[00:19:19] who I'd met through my boyfriend at the time
[00:19:21] were all very into the paranormal.
[00:19:23] One of my close friends
[00:19:24] we will call her Rivi
[00:19:26] invited me and another of our friends
[00:19:27] Pat to her apartment after school.
[00:19:30] I texted my mother
[00:19:31] asking if I could go to her place after school
[00:19:34] and she said yes.
[00:19:35] So,
[00:19:36] Pat and I hitched a ride with Rivi
[00:19:38] and her mother to their apartment.
[00:19:40] Her mother stayed downstairs watching TV
[00:19:42] and Rivi brought us upstairs to her room.
[00:19:45] While we sat in her room talking
[00:19:47] Pat and Rivi started exchanging their
[00:19:49] paranormal encounters.
[00:19:50] I rolled my eyes and listened quietly
[00:19:53] trying to be polite
[00:19:54] and when they asked me if I had any encounters
[00:19:57] I informed them that I didn't believe in the
[00:19:59] paranormal as I had forgotten about
[00:20:01] the first one that I had when I was five
[00:20:04] and to Pat's dismay
[00:20:05] my friend Rivi suggested that we get out
[00:20:08] her Ouija board.
[00:20:09] At the time I laughed it off
[00:20:11] and agreed to do so
[00:20:12] but Pat refused to participate
[00:20:14] and said that he would just watch.
[00:20:16] Rivi put the board on the floor
[00:20:18] and her and I began to try to contact a spirit.
[00:20:21] We had contacted an entity who said their name
[00:20:23] was Magda
[00:20:25] and we asked how she had passed
[00:20:27] and it spelled out
[00:20:28] Holocaust.
[00:20:30] I rolled my eyes not believing any of it
[00:20:32] which Rivi saw.
[00:20:34] Then Rivi asked for a sign
[00:20:36] that she was with us.
[00:20:38] Now Pat was standing in the doorway
[00:20:40] and Rivi and I were in the middle of the room
[00:20:42] and across the room on the opposite wall
[00:20:43] was a dresser
[00:20:44] with an empty sprite can on top of it.
[00:20:47] The sprite can began to vibrate
[00:20:49] rapidly on the dresser.
[00:20:51] My heart sank into my stomach
[00:20:53] and we stared at it
[00:20:54] until it was knocked off the dresser
[00:20:56] rolling on the carpet towards us
[00:20:58] and then it stopped.
[00:21:00] I stood up and walked to the dresser
[00:21:02] trying to find some sort of explanation
[00:21:04] which there wasn't.
[00:21:06] I put my hand on the dresser
[00:21:08] and there was nothing
[00:21:09] no air from the vent.
[00:21:10] The fan was turned off
[00:21:12] and I couldn't feel any sort of vibration.
[00:21:15] After that, I went back to the board
[00:21:17] and said goodbye.
[00:21:18] I then went to the door
[00:21:20] and Pat sat down with Rivi
[00:21:22] to try to contact someone else.
[00:21:25] While I stood in the doorway watching
[00:21:27] the next entity they contacted
[00:21:28] was named Robert
[00:21:30] which was the name of my cousin
[00:21:31] who had died a couple of weeks earlier.
[00:21:33] I stared as they talked to him
[00:21:35] and when Rivi asked for a sign
[00:21:37] the fan turned on by itself
[00:21:39] and a gust of air washed over me
[00:21:42] but it didn't feel scary or cold.
[00:21:44] It was as if someone warm
[00:21:45] was gently hugging me.
[00:21:47] I started to cry
[00:21:49] and they said goodbye
[00:21:50] and they put the board away
[00:21:51] to console me.
[00:21:53] When we walked downstairs
[00:21:54] her mother was asleep on the couch.
[00:21:57] After that,
[00:21:58] I never doubted the paranormal
[00:22:00] again.
[00:22:04] This next experience
[00:22:05] comes to us from Kay
[00:22:07] and Kay's experience is called
[00:22:09] Ghostly Grandpa.
[00:22:12] Kay says,
[00:22:14] Hi Nick,
[00:22:15] I found your podcast a few months ago
[00:22:16] and I'm hooked.
[00:22:17] I love how you don't include silly sound effects
[00:22:19] like some other podcasts
[00:22:21] which instantly stops me listening.
[00:22:23] Your podcast is just pure
[00:22:25] raw experiences.
[00:22:26] So thank you for that.
[00:22:28] I live in the UK
[00:22:30] and I am in my later 30s.
[00:22:32] I've grown up fascinated by the paranormal
[00:22:34] and would binge watch spooky ghost hunting shows,
[00:22:37] UFO shows,
[00:22:38] and anything else mysterious
[00:22:39] that my sister and I could get our hands on.
[00:22:41] I wouldn't say that I'm sensitive to the paranormal
[00:22:44] though I am somewhat of an empath
[00:22:46] for the living.
[00:22:47] As a child,
[00:22:48] I spent most of my life in a house
[00:22:50] built around 1710.
[00:22:51] It was a beautiful house
[00:22:53] which oozed history
[00:22:54] and personality.
[00:22:55] So it may surprise you to hear
[00:22:57] that my most significant
[00:22:58] paranormal experience
[00:22:59] was not located there.
[00:23:01] Though I have had some strange
[00:23:03] head scratching moments there.
[00:23:05] Instead,
[00:23:06] my experience was in a friend's 1960s house.
[00:23:09] Me and some other friends,
[00:23:10] all in our 20s by this point,
[00:23:12] were crashing in the living room
[00:23:13] of my friend's family home
[00:23:15] which was owned by her mom and dad.
[00:23:17] We lived so far apart
[00:23:19] and were young and broke enough
[00:23:20] that having a sleepover on our friend's
[00:23:22] mom's living room floor
[00:23:24] seemed like a great idea to each other.
[00:23:26] We had a great evening
[00:23:27] having dinner in the nearby town
[00:23:29] before heading back to watch some junk TV
[00:23:31] and catch up some more.
[00:23:33] My friend had a smallish
[00:23:34] carrier type dog
[00:23:36] which my friend shut in the kitchen
[00:23:37] so that it wouldn't bother us
[00:23:38] when we finally settled down to go to sleep.
[00:23:41] I got the sofa
[00:23:42] which was located next to the living room door
[00:23:44] so when I was laying on it
[00:23:46] my feet were almost touching the door
[00:23:48] when it was open.
[00:23:49] Like I said,
[00:23:50] this house was in no way spooky.
[00:23:52] It was modern,
[00:23:53] warm and welcoming
[00:23:55] and my friends were asleep near me.
[00:23:57] I felt relaxed
[00:23:58] and very safe.
[00:24:00] We shut the living room door closed
[00:24:02] and I soon fell asleep
[00:24:04] as did my friends.
[00:24:06] At some point in the night
[00:24:07] I woke to the sound of the living room door
[00:24:09] opening
[00:24:10] bearing in mind that the door was shut fully
[00:24:12] when we went to sleep.
[00:24:14] The door slowly opened
[00:24:15] and naturally I expected to see a face
[00:24:17] pop around the corner of my friend's mom
[00:24:19] checking on us
[00:24:20] or something normal
[00:24:22] but nothing.
[00:24:24] No face.
[00:24:25] Nobody.
[00:24:26] Instead,
[00:24:27] I started to hear shuffling noises
[00:24:29] as if slippers were scuffing across the carpet
[00:24:31] and someone was not picking up their feet properly.
[00:24:34] I thought that it must be the dog
[00:24:36] but no dog was there.
[00:24:38] Besides,
[00:24:38] this small terrier would have to have needed to open
[00:24:41] two door handles to get to us.
[00:24:43] I didn't feel afraid however,
[00:24:45] just confused.
[00:24:46] The shuffling stopped
[00:24:47] and the door closed itself
[00:24:49] again seemingly all on its own.
[00:24:52] Strange,
[00:24:52] I thought
[00:24:53] before I drifted back off to sleep.
[00:24:56] The next morning
[00:24:57] I mentioned my experience to my friends.
[00:25:00] One friend went a bit pale
[00:25:01] and said that they had seen a figure
[00:25:03] standing near the glass doors
[00:25:04] near an armchair at the back of the room.
[00:25:07] They too were not afraid
[00:25:08] and went back to sleep after seeing this.
[00:25:11] On hearing this,
[00:25:12] my friend's mom told us
[00:25:13] that it was her father's birthday today
[00:25:15] and that they had lost him
[00:25:17] the previous year.
[00:25:18] The chair that my friend saw the figure by
[00:25:21] was the chair
[00:25:22] that he sat in.
[00:25:23] We all felt a bit spooked
[00:25:25] but I feel that my friend's mom
[00:25:26] felt some comfort by this
[00:25:28] and believed that her father
[00:25:29] had popped in to see the family on his birthday
[00:25:32] and may have gotten a shock instead
[00:25:34] finding a living room
[00:25:36] full of women.
[00:25:38] We haven't spoken about this again in a long time
[00:25:41] but your podcast reminded me of this experience
[00:25:43] so thank you Nick.
[00:25:45] Please keep the podcast going.
[00:25:47] It truly is
[00:25:48] a special thing.
[00:25:50] Lots of love to you
[00:25:52] and your listeners.
[00:25:54] K
[00:25:59] I hope you enjoyed tonight's episode
