[00:00:06] You're listening to the Archive, a glimpse into the past of Paranormal Mysteries. On today's episode, we'll be talking about a dog that can see spirits, a grandfather's ghost, and a skeptic's encounter. These stories and more on this edition of Paranormal Mysteries.
[00:00:48] Thank you for joining me and welcome. I am your host, Nick Ryan. I hope that everyone's been having a great week so far. And before we start, I'd like to say thank you to Aaron for their support and generosity. And with that being said, our first story comes to us from KW. And KW's story is called, A Skeptic Has a Shared Ghostly Encounter and a Strange Dream
[00:01:14] Encounter. KW says, I have never been one to take stories of paranormal encounters seriously, and often just listen out of politeness when someone begins to talk about it. I guess I'm a skeptic when it comes to this stuff, so from time to time I will listen to shows like yours, because even though to me it is not real, it is interesting nonetheless. That being said, over the years I have had two
[00:01:39] strange instances, which were just weird and are not easy to explain. The first instance I know was not my imagination, because my friend who was also not a believer in anything paranormal was sitting next to me, and we both heard the same thing. This was over ten years ago in my hometown in England. One of our friends had lost their grandmother that week, who he was raised by. She had died in her
[00:02:04] sleep one night, and was discovered as my friend took her a cup of tea. How she would demand her cup of tea comes into this, so let me explain that. She would go to the bottom of the stairs and shout up in her thick Irish accent, David, David, make me a cup of tea. The week she died, me and my other friend were both at David's house for support, as we had been every night since. We were both playing
[00:02:31] on the Xbox and chatting away as normal. David wasn't home, he was out making funeral arrangements with his grandmother's close friend. And suddenly I heard, David, David, as clear as anything in her thick Irish accent, coming from the bottom of the stairs. Thinking I was hearing things, I turned to my friend to tell him what I was hearing, and his eyes were wide open, and he was still staring at me.
[00:02:56] It was then that I realized I wasn't hearing things. We were both hearing this. We both laughed in shock and said, What the F is going on? Being young at the time and panicked, I just turned the TV up. I should also add that there was someone else downstairs, and this is where our thoughts went to as an explanation. We got the courage to go downstairs into the living room and went and asked this person who was a friend of David's if she had shouted up the stairs. She said she hadn't,
[00:03:26] and she was watching TV. I asked if she had heard anything, and she claimed not to. This is one experience I've often wondered about. If she had shouted up, then why wouldn't she say? She knew David was out, so why would she have shouted David? She hadn't heard anything, but me and my friend both did. She didn't know David's grandmother very well at all, and didn't know how she would shout up the
[00:03:51] stairs to ask for her tea. Anyway, it's fair to say that nothing like that has happened in that house since, though it has always left me feeling strange to be alone in any room there. The second instance is much shorter than the last, and happened recently. It has to do with dreaming of a loved one who has long since passed. My grandmother died in 2016. I was living in Taiwan at the time, and though I tried to
[00:04:17] make it home in time to see her, she died sooner than expected. About five to six months ago, I was dreaming about her and having a conversation with her. I tend to know when I am dreaming, although I am not one to be able to control my dreams. Knowing I was dreaming, I said to her, Nan, why are you here? You are dead. Whatever she responded to me, I don't remember, but in my dream she reached out and put
[00:04:42] her hand on my shoulder. And in that moment, I was woken up to my girlfriend acting out her dream, and putting her hand on my shoulder. She immediately went back to sleep, and has no recollection of acting out her dream. In fact, it is not something she has ever done in the nearly four years we've been together. A weird coincidence? Most likely, but very strange. It wasn't the first time that I've dreamt of conversing with her either, and I'm not the only one in our family who has dreamt of having
[00:05:11] a conversation with her. Many of my cousins, aunts, and uncles have had such experiences. I imagine this to be normal for people grieving. It has been five years though, and now has me feeling that it's odd. My dad, who is about as skeptical as you can get on this kind of stuff, and mocks people who believe in it, woke up crying recently. He claims he had a dream, and he was talking with her.
[00:05:40] Our next story of the night comes to us from Autumn. An Autumn story is called Night on Patrol. Autumn says, Hello. I have to say I enjoy the podcast. I have been binge listening while at work since I discovered it last week. It has made my work days more enjoyable, and go by so much faster. I have always been sensitive to the creepy things that go bump in the night, but I have chose to ignore it,
[00:06:05] due to not wanting to be considered crazy. I am a former police officer, and I worked in a very busy area. There was always something happening on the night shift that kept us busy. However, this one night was very quiet, and was a good time to catch up on my paperwork. Every officer has a favorite hiding spot in their patrol zone that is quiet and tucked away to provide some level of safety. I was parked in the back of a neighborhood, and had the back of my car backed up
[00:06:33] against a tree line. I was still a rookie officer at the time, learning my zone, but this spot was where the older officers would hide out, so I was sure that this was a safe spot. I positioned my car so that I could see the one-way-in street, and put the car in park and rolled down my windows, per officer safety. If there was anyone attempting to ambush me, I would hear them. I began filling out paperwork and catching up on reports. I heard a crack behind me from the tree
[00:07:02] line. I looked up and scanned the area, but did not see anything, and I chalked it up to a raccoon, and began finishing my paperwork. It wasn't long before I started to get the feeling of being watched. I always trusted my instincts as an officer, and again I looked up and scanned behind me. I heard another crack, and heard more sounds coming from the tree line while I sat there. My mind went to thinking that this could be an ambush attack, so I got out of my car with my flashlight,
[00:07:31] and hand resting on my holstered weapon. I approached the tree line. However, I did not see or hear anyone. There were no new noises either, so I knew nothing had ran away. Again, I chalked it up to either raccoons or squirrels, or, God forbid, a skunk. I went back to my car. However, I was now on alert. About ten minutes went by, and again I felt as though I was being watched, and I heard movement,
[00:07:57] by what sounded like slow and controlled steps approaching my vehicle. I could hear them getting closer, and I felt a wave of fear come over me. I hopped out of my car quickly to confront whoever was stalking me, but there was nothing. No one was there, and no animals. I still felt as though I was being watched, and I was creeped out beyond words at this point. I got back in my car and turned it around so that my headlights and spotlight were pointed at the tree line.
[00:08:24] I didn't know if it was my imagination, but I certainly didn't feel like it was my imagination. I did not see anyone in the trees, and then I quickly left the area, and sped to a well-lit convenience store parking lot. I took a few deep breaths and got a cup of coffee while trying to regain my control. After a bit, I received a call for service, and I headed to the call and put the creepy experience behind me. A few weeks later, I was put with one of my favorite senior officers,
[00:08:53] and we were patrolling that same area, and I laughingly told him about the night I freaked myself out. He just smiled at me and chuckled. Actually chuckled. How many times have you been back there? I said, not often, but I know you and your others like that spot, so I figured it was safe. He then told me to head that way, and asked why it was that I thought that on a quiet night, there were no other officers there, and why they would only go there during the day, or with a
[00:09:21] partner. I pulled into the area, and he told me to put the car in park. He got out and started walking toward the tree line. We went through the tree line that was pretty thick. In the car, he smiled when he asked, do you know what's behind these trees? I looked past the tree brake and saw the opening. I was at a loss for words when I saw that we were headed toward a cemetery. It was a small cemetery that was one of the oldest in the city, and tucked away. I had no idea that it was behind the trees, or that it even
[00:09:50] existed. He told me some stories about his experiences from that spot that matched mine. Over the years that I worked there, a few other officers had similar stories. I never went back to that spot, and I dreaded going into that area at night alone for calls for service. I have other stories. As officers, we are always dispatched to the weird and the unexplained stuff that scares people,
[00:10:15] but this one definitely scared me. Our next story of the night comes to us from Maddie, and Maddie's story is called Mystery Rock. Maddie says, My family owns a 400-acre farm that runs along a major river. As a child, my cousins and I would explore this vast landmass, finding new paths, and we would go on general adventures. One day,
[00:10:43] we came across this massive rock split down the center. The crack was wide enough to walk through, and on many occasions we did. The split ended up being a shortcut from the main trail to the river. Without the shortcut, it was about a three-mile walk, and with the shortcut, maybe a three-minute walk. We never questioned this as children, or even as teenagers. As life went on, almost all of us had
[00:11:08] stopped going to the farm, and we were just living our lives. Recently, one of my cousins went to the farm to spend time there with his kids. He decided to show them the shortcut to the river, and to his surprise, the rock was gone. I don't mean gone as in he was looking in the wrong place. I mean gone, and it left a clearing with its disappearance. He tells all of us this recently at a Zoom family
[00:11:32] reunion, and we were all shocked. As we're talking and explaining everything to our parents, aunts, and uncles, they point out to us how the shortcut doesn't really make any sense for the location or time, as it is miles from the river, and there is no way it took us right to it. But it 1,000% did, and we all know that it did. It was then that we all realized that they were right. It didn't make any sense, but it
[00:11:56] did happen. None of us have any idea what exactly we experienced as children, but I know with absolute certainty that that rock existed, and that it got us to the river in record time. [00:12:55] Our next story of the night comes to us from Layla, and Layla's story is called True Love Can Pass Boundaries. Layla says, Hello. I've recently discovered your podcast, and was intrigued to hear listener stories of paranormal encounters, and I felt compelled to share one of my own. Back in 2005, I was 20 years old and pregnant with my first child. My mother and I moved in with my great-grandmother, who was
[00:13:21] ill with Parkinson's and Alzheimer's, to be able to care for her and avoid moving her into a nursing home. My grandmother lived in a brick, ranch-style home that was on a hill, so the common spaces of the home were on the left end of the house, and the bedrooms were on the right, up a small staircase, four stairs high. One night, due to pregnancy bladder problems, I had to use the little girl's room around 2 a.m. My bedroom was located directly across the hall from the bathroom. If you walk out
[00:13:49] of my room, to the right were my grandmother and my mother's rooms, and to the left was the small staircase that led into the formal living room, which had a doorway immediately to the right that led into the family room. As I crawled out of my bed, I noticed that the room was freezing, which was odd because it was August in Kentucky, and August is unbearably warm. Plus, I'm pregnant, so hot flashes stayed with me. I went to leave my bedroom and head across the hall to the bathroom, when, for some
[00:14:17] reason, I decided to glance to my left down the stairs. There was a man standing there. He wasn't standing there as if he were an intruder, and in my mind I knew that. He was almost glowing with a light that is hard to describe. I could very clearly make out that he was wearing tan slacks and a white button-up shirt. He was young, 20s maybe, but his features were hard to distinguish. Almost as soon as I saw him, he disappeared into the family room. I was obviously terrified, and a self-identified
[00:14:47] chicken, so I spun on my heels back into my bedroom and shut and locked the door. I held my bladder and dozed off the rest of the night. The next morning, I was in the kitchen telling my mother what had happened, and my grandmother was in her recliner in the family room, which is connected to the kitchen, and she was watching the news. She overheard our conversation and asked me to sit and talk with her. I then began to explain what I thought I had seen, still not convinced that it was real, when she stopped me and said,
[00:15:17] Yes, dear, I know who you saw. Now, like I said, my grandmother had Alzheimer's, so at first, I wasn't sure if she was lucid, but what she said next chilled me to the bone. You saw Tubby, child? Tubby was my great-grandfather, and he had passed away more than a decade before. I said, Ma, you know that Tubby isn't with us anymore. To which she replied, Oh, yes, he is. He visits me often. He sits right there on the sofa and keeps me company while you
[00:15:46] and your mother work. We laugh and reminisce of our glory days, camping at the lake and raising our the wonderful time we spent together, and he looks just as he did the day that I met him. A handsome young man, always dressed in his crisp linen shirt. Don't be scared, child. Your grandfather would never hurt you. I was speechless. My mother, who had heard the entire conversation,
[00:16:11] had to pick her jaw off the floor. After that night, I never saw Tubby again. I wasn't scared, either. But sure enough, every so often I would return home from work to my grandmother filling me in on the conversations that she had had with Tubby. Eventually, my grandmother's condition took a turn for the worse, and she passed away. But I couldn't be too sad. I knew that Tubby was there by her side
[00:16:35] to take her with him to the other side. I guess true love really doesn't have any barriers. I hope you enjoyed my experience. I have more to share, and will send you those on a later date. I look forward to hearing more from your podcast. You have a forever fan in me. Sincerely, Layla. Our next story of the night comes to us from Elizabeth, and Elizabeth's story is called
[00:17:04] Dog Sees Ghost. Elizabeth says, I have been listening to your podcast for some time now, and would love to share. Ever since I was young, I have always been sensitive to paranormal things. Things I could never explain. When I was in fifth grade, my family moved to a pretty old house that was built in the 1920s that I always hated from the moment I laid eyes on it. I don't know why. I just did. It wasn't until I entered middle school one year after moving in that I began to experience
[00:17:34] many strange things in the house, and it would for some reason target me. One major thing that happened was when I came home from school, and it was only my mother and I in the house. She was in the bathroom cleaning it, and I was hungry, so I went into the kitchen to make myself a sandwich. I had my dog with me, and one thing you need to know is that my dog absolutely never growls. He will bark, but not growl. At the time, my dog was about seven years old, and I have never
[00:18:02] heard him growl in his whole life. So as I'm in the kitchen grabbing my bread, my dog suddenly begins to growl in the direction of the garage door. We always kept the door to the garage open so we could see inside of it. Now, this absolutely stopped me in my tracks, and I was frozen. My dog kept growling in the direction of the garage, and I began to freak out. So as I'm frozen, incapable of moving, I try to call my mom to come from the bathroom, but being across the house,
[00:18:30] she couldn't hear me. I am staring at the inside of the garage the whole time, just frozen, and suddenly I see a shadow of a man walk by. And as soon as the shadow went away, my dog stopped growling and left. I was mortified, and immediately ran to my mother to tell her what had just happened. Now, I know for a fact that it wasn't someone playing a joke on me, because my brother was still in school at the time, and my father was still at work. None of them could have
[00:18:57] been home, and I know that it was impossible for my mother to do anything of this sort, considering where in the house she was. There was literally no explanation to this event, and to this day, I still have not heard my dog growl again. Much more happened to me in that house, but that's for another post. Our next listener story comes to us from Brett, and Brett's story is called
[00:19:23] Paranormal and Just Plain Weird. Brett says, Dear Nick, I'm new to your podcast. My wife stumbled upon it when we were traveling for my work. I work in the gas and oil industry, more specifically, propane and diesel. This is relevant because of my experiences. I work for the family business with my father in central Nebraska, more specifically,
[00:19:48] the rural area. My father has always been a believer in extraterrestrials and the paranormal, so needless to say, I believe him when he talks about his experiences. This is the first experience. My father has always told me about some of the unexplained experiences he's had while on the job, most of which happen at a single address. This is a couple of his experiences, plus one of mine.
[00:20:13] The home was founded in the late 1880s, and the home has been owned by the same family in some way through the years. One day while performing a service call while doing the propane route in the area, my father was in this home by himself as the owner was at work. He had to shut the gas off, and while relighting the appliances, things got weird. The hot water heater always gave him fits
[00:20:38] when it came to relighting it. It was inconveniently placed in the main floor bathroom. While he was lying on his side trying to relight said water heater, a single piece of toilet paper came falling down like a feather, and landed next to him. Mind you, this water heater was in a small closet, just big enough for the heater itself. Shrugging it off, he got up after lighting it, and noticed that the roll of toilet paper had been completely rolled out, as if someone spun it to empty it.
[00:21:06] Not thinking, he quickly wound the toilet paper back up, packed his things, and made his way back to the truck. He got in, released the parking brake, and was about to leave when the truck suddenly shut off, as if the key was turned off. He thought, well that's weird, because the truck had never done that before, and has yet to do it ever since. He tried several times to start the truck. Frustrated, he shouted, come on guys, I got a lot to do today, let me go back to work. And it was at that very
[00:21:36] second that the truck started, and he drove away. This is the second experience. This was my first ever time going to this home in October of 2020. The homeowner was having an issue with a small heater in the upstairs of the home, so my father and I went to go get it going for her. After trying various things for an hour, we decided to unhook the heater, and take it to our shop to work on, and my dad had
[00:22:01] me go out to my service truck to get a cap to close off the gas line. As I came back in, to my surprise, my dad said he got it to light. Apparently, as I left the house, literally as I crossed the threshold and the screen door shut, the pilot light lit without a hitch, as if there was no problem at all. We joked that that was my initiation to the house, and the gentleman that still hangs out there. Later on, my wife went with me, as she is a very open-minded person. She got the vibe of a man who
[00:22:31] loved to play jokes, and she even saw him, and described the man or spirit to a T. I have more stories to share, but this will be a start to keep things short. Love the show, and keep up the great work. As tonight's edition of Paranormal Mysteries comes to a close, I'd like to thank all of you
[00:22:53] for tuning in, and a special thank you goes out to KW, Autumn, Maddie, Layla, Elizabeth, and Brett for sharing their experiences.
