[00:00:00] From the largest cities to the smallest villages, bizarre encounters occur every day all over the world. Today's show takes us deep into the country of southern Bolivia, to a place where one of the most unusual and unheard of accounts still ranks as one of the strangest on record.
[00:00:19] So relax and open your mind as we dive headfirst into the tale of the Sheep Slayer of Potosi. The first time it happened, I was sleeping and woke up because I felt a hand on my leg and I realized that I couldn't move.
[00:00:39] And he'd come across this object on the ground which was in the shape of a flying saucer. So he jumped out of his pickup and went down there and there was four beings laying on the ground.
[00:00:49] When I raised my head back up, I was turning my head and out of my peripheral vision I seen something hop to a tree. And it was tall, about 7-8 foot tall, and it was black, real hairy, like a gorilla.
[00:01:18] The year is 1967, and the location is just outside of Potosi, Bolivia. Founded in 1545, Potosi is located in Bolivia's southernmost region, and is well known for being one of the highest cities in the world, with an elevation of over 13,000 feet.
[00:01:39] Approximately 80 miles west of Potosi, you'll find the small, windswept village of Opoco. Opoco is a small, underdeveloped town inhabited by the native Quechua people. The village even to this day is fairly disconnected from the news and other media found in Bolivia's larger cities.
[00:02:01] It is here, just outside of Opoco, that 24-year-old Valentina Flores lived, along with her husband and baby girl. Valentina's livelihood was her flock of 64 sheep that she would herd throughout the surrounding hills in order to let them graze.
[00:02:18] This was Valentina's daily routine, and she knew the countryside like the back of her hand. Late one afternoon just after Easter, Valentina led her flock of 64 sheep through the hills and into a grazing field along a stone corral.
[00:02:35] On this particular day, Valentina had also brought several of her llamas to forage alongside her sheep. This is a common practice, as llamas are naturally aggressive toward coyotes and fox, and act as a kind of protector to the surrounding herd.
[00:02:51] As she tended to her sheep, the herd of llamas continued grazing and eventually began to move down the hill and out of sight. Turning around, Valentina realized that the llamas were nowhere to be found, and leaving
[00:03:03] the sheep to graze, Valentina scoured the countryside in search of her llamas. After searching for the better part of an hour, she found the llamas grazing in an open field. Valentina collected the herd and began the long hike back towards the herd of sheep.
[00:03:23] Evening was now setting in, and Valentina had finally reached the hillside where she had left her sheep to graze, llamas in tow. As she crested the hill however, she was annoyed to discover that her sheep were not where she had left them.
[00:03:37] Frustrated, she left the llamas and quickly began to follow the sheep's tracks which seemed to lead through the hills and back toward the stone corral that they had passed earlier in the day.
[00:03:50] As she traversed the hills in search of the sheep, she could see the stone corral up ahead in the distance. As she proceeded toward it, she noticed something very odd. The stone structure of the corral was now covered by what appeared to be some sort of large web.
[00:04:06] In the center of this strange netting, there also appeared to be a pole that created a tent-like canopy that attached itself to the surrounding rocks. Confused as to what she was seeing, and still intent on finding her sheep, Valentina approached the corral and peered over the side.
[00:04:25] What she saw before her was unimaginable. In the corral beneath the large webbed structure lay 63 of her 64 sheep, completely disemboweled. All Valentina could do is stare in horror at the remains of her family's livestock.
[00:04:45] It was at this moment that she noticed something moving, and as she turned, she saw a small human-like being crouched amongst the dead sheep. Between the entity's legs was Valentina's 64th sheep, struggling to escape the clutches of its attacker.
[00:05:02] In the creature's hand it held a tubular device with what appeared to be a sharp hook at one end and a chain on the other that seemed to be attached to the entity.
[00:05:14] Valentina could also see some type of sack near the assailant that lay open on the ground and appeared to be filled with the collected entrails of her murdered flock. Valentina stared in bewilderment at the scene before her, knowing full well that she had
[00:05:30] to intervene in order to save her last sheep. Picking up a rock and taking aim, she heaved the stone at the creature along with a helping of obscenities. It was then that the sheep slayer quickly stood up and turned to face her.
[00:05:45] The terrified sheep used this opportunity to escape, as its abductor stared at Valentina. She described the being as having a look of shock and fear when it noticed her. During a 2001 interview, Valentina had this to say about the attacker. There was a small man inside the corral.
[00:06:03] He was like a child, on his knees, and with a sheep between his legs. The pen was covered with something like a net. I panicked. The individual had killed all my animals. Valentina went on to describe the odd being and said this.
[00:06:20] He was wearing strange clothing, like a diver. One piece from the neck to the feet. The boots were brown. He had very light white skin, with blond hair, blue eyes, and a red and abundant mustache.
[00:06:37] She also said that the individual had red criss-crossing straps that covered its chest. The small man also had a large, futuristic-looking backpack, complete with two large pockets on its sides. The strange creature also wore a helmet, which had a propeller that protruded from the top.
[00:06:55] Apparently realizing that he'd been caught, the small man ran over to a device with a crank which Valentina later compared to a radio. As the being turned the lever on the top of the box, the webbing above them quickly retracted into it.
[00:07:10] As this was happening, Valentina spied another identical-looking creature on the other side of the corral. She said that when the second entity noticed her, it ran up to the top of the closest hill and mounted a type of motorized chair.
[00:07:24] The chair then sprouted a set of helicopter-like blades and promptly lifted off into the air, Turning her attention back to the creature within the corral, Valentina removed an iron-tipped cudgel from her pack and swiftly moved toward the tiny mass murderer.
[00:07:41] Trudging past the bodies of her beloved sheep, she became more and more enraged until she was standing face to face with the tiny interloper. When she reached him, the little man tried speaking to Valentina in a strange language that she did not understand.
[00:07:57] It seemed as though he was as angry as she was as he continued to speak in an anxious and agitated tone. Valentina was so furious that she swung her cudgel at the entity, ultimately hitting him square in the face with painful accuracy.
[00:08:13] In her interview, she recalled the following, He spoke to me but I did not understand it. It was not Quechua or Spanish. He was as upset as I was. Oh my God! My animals! He killed them one by one. I became crazy.
[00:08:29] I hit him with all my strength. Hit him in the face and he started to bleed. The guy was still screaming, but I did not understand it. At this moment, the sheep slayer decided that he too had had enough and grasped the oddly
[00:08:44] shaped hook attached to his suit and threw it at Valentina, the same hook that he had used to kill her sheep only moments earlier. The device flew through the air, cutting into Valentina's arm and chest and then returning to the creature's hand by means of a long chain.
[00:09:01] Determined to dispatch the man, Valentina hit him again, this time making contact with his right forearm. The creature let out a horrible yell as blood began to drip down his wrist. With its undamaged hand, it grabbed the mechanical box that earlier had retracted the strange
[00:09:18] webbing and began to flee toward the nearby hills. Once in position, the creature mounted the same type of flying chair as his partner and quickly rose into the sky. This would be the last time that Valentina would see the strange entity.
[00:09:38] After her harrowing encounter, the Bolivian army was contacted and arrived at the scene shortly thereafter. They collected all 63 sheep carcasses and retrieved samples of the creature's blood that was found within the corral. The military completed an investigation and reported that the sheep had been stripped
[00:09:57] of their eyes, ears, and parts of their mouths. The military also noted that the sheep had their internal and external organs removed along with some of their stomach fat. It was also discovered that the carcasses were devoid of nearly all of their blood.
[00:10:15] In the months that followed, Valentina and her family were forced to move multiple times in order to find work. When questioned, other ranchers in the nearby area stated that they too had seen odd creatures
[00:10:26] in and around their sheep pens, and some even claimed that they had found carcasses devoid of blood in the weeks prior to Valentina's encounter. During her interview in 2001, Valentina also stated that in the days leading up to her encounter
[00:10:42] an unknown person had thrown a bowl of what she believed to be blood into her face. While it's unclear as to why this happened or what connection it might have had to Valentina's extraordinary encounter days later, she thought it was bizarre enough that it warranted being
[00:10:58] included in the retelling of her story. It's also important to note that the Quechua people that inhabit this land are not prone to wild stories of paranormal or extraterrestrial sightings. In fact, quite the contrary.
[00:11:14] During her interview, Valentina admitted that she was not familiar with the concept of aliens or anything even remotely connected to the unexplained. This would also be true for the other ranchers that were interviewed days later, all claiming
[00:11:27] that they had never seen or heard of anything like this until the recent sightings. Additional information regarding Valentina's experience is difficult at best to track down, which makes this case all the more confusing and compelling.
[00:11:43] Was there really a pair of tiny red mustached men running around the Bolivian countryside in search of sheep to dismember? Is this an actual eyewitness encounter of livestock mutilation that still occurs to this day?
[00:11:56] If it is, Valentina Flores may be the first and only person to ever come forward with an actual first-hand encounter.
