(A) Michigan Dogman: A Great Lakes Legend - Part 1 | Archive Ep22

[00:00:00] Coming to you from the Pacific Northwest, you're listening to the many strange and wonderful phenomena that the state has to offer. Michigan contains 19.3 million acres of forest, which covers 53% of the Great Lakes state. Many Michigan natives believe that in these woods, lives a legendary creature with a horrifying past.

[00:01:43] For centuries, people of this region have told stories of a beast that resembles a dog or wolf has a long narrow snout and pointed ears. Many of the reports state that the beast stands and stares with an ominous intelligent grin, as if it's aware of something that the witness is not. Some people have reported that the creatures seem to have no interest in them whatsoever as they watched it walk away from them through the trees.

[00:03:01] In all scenarios, however, every witness describes, or crow, although they do have the ability to turn into any animal they choose.

[00:04:22] The most well-known version of this beast man. In 1887, two lumberjacks in Wexford County, Michigan were working in the woods when they

[00:05:41] spotted a creature they described as having the body to put with the horrifying description of the animal. As the years passed, the sightings continued and even spread to the neighboring states of Wisconsin, Illinois an elderly man who stated that he was chilled to the bone after hearing the song because he had actually seen a similar creature years earlier. That was the first of many reports that would pour into

[00:08:23] the station over the next few weeks. Within one in with the seventh-year prophecy made in the song. Suddenly, Cook's song, The Legend, soared into national prominence, and became a hit song once again, only this time on a much larger scale. Requests for copies came in from all 50 states and around the world.

[00:09:44] Eventually, the master copy of the tape, which was originally priced at $3, were sold and in fall of 1987, WTCM held an art contest which allowed amateur artists the chance to submit works depicting what they thought the Dogman looked like.

[00:11:01] There were over 100 entries.

[00:11:03] Some were exceptional. maximum boarding time in traditional facilities and are about to be euthanized. They rehabilitate animals through a unique foster care network and eventually place them in a loving home. Cook was so impressed with the AC Paw program, he shifted all donations from the proceeds of the legend to their cause and thus the legend of the Dog Man's legacy lives on for animals in need.

[00:13:25] This song has been firmly woven into the fabric of northern Michigan. It is part of the culture now, and part of the folklore.
